Job Details

The Exploration Central (EXC) Regional Curator is responsible for developing, managing and evaluating program activities for Explorations Central for the ports and destinations in the itineraries we serve. The purpose of this position is to provide region specific programming, training, and evaluative support to enhance the cultural enrichment and education of the EXC programs by designing and developing programming, providing advice and support to EXC Guides and researching EXC Encounters. The position will provide assistance to EXC Guides in their capacity implement EXC programs. The position will also provide technical support and oversight of EXC between shoreside Entertainment Team and shipboard teams.


  • Identifying strategic and innovative programming opportunities that are aligned with EXC’s overall project objectives

  • Design, create, manage and oversee content programming for your region

  • Facilitate effective communications between EXC Location Guides on ship and HAL shoreside;

  • Meet content development project deliverables and stay attuned to current activities and make course corrections in the content development process to address emerging topics; Execute content development, review and approval process to meet project deadlines by interfacing with EXC Manager

  • Support the EXC program by helping to develop priorities, identifying potential programs, talks, workshops and research areas, monitoring progress, and reviewing initial drafts

  • Follow the content development plan as part of the broader project plan (components include but are not limited to objective, strategy, tactics, audience segmentation, key messages, measurement, and time & event schedule)

  • Conduct assessments where programs, and processes, including areas where definitions, methods, and/or data are incomplete, controversial, or uncertain, or where boundaries are extremely broad and difficult to determine

  • Work with the Sr. Manager EXC to determine programming and staff training needs. Assists with interviewing, selection, and training process of new programming and training employees

  • Serve as the EXC Country representative of assigned region which will require liaising with the shipboard entertainment team, EXC Guides, possibly relevant officials of National Park Service, as well as with a diverse range of organizations, academic institutions, , and local troupes and groups.

  • Effectively disseminate information about EXC program activities through briefings to Entertainment Team and participation in and convening of groups or events within HAL.

  • The EXC RDPC manages partnerships with EXC Troupe counterparts, including communicating work that is currently being supported, developing ideas for potential programming with Troupes and Encounters, and assisting in the drafting of project concept notes and proposals.


  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in social sciences, graphic design, education, experience design, journalism, content development, project management required and/or preferred.

  • Minimum two years of experience in at least two of the following areas: story editing, curation and content management, Experience working on ships a plus, Prior experience digital management content. 1+ years of direct experience in content development, communications and/ or other related positions in a tourist/hospitality environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently in complex and difficult situations

  • Ability to manage and instruct ship staff

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deal with counterparts in many regions of the world

  • Excellent writer and editor; ability to translate complex ideas and information into organized, guided resources to enhance end user experience.

  • Understanding of knowledge creation best practices (capture, creation and organization of information across multiple channels.)

  • Refined skills of grammar and syntax; ability to adapt writing styles quickly and gracefully; good ear for language and finding the most appropriate and effective way to say something.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to stay on schedule under tight, frequently changed deadlines/priorities.

  • Experience in working directly with key stakeholders, team members, technical experts, and professional staff.

  • Expert experience with Microsoft products – Office [Word, PowerPoint], Outlook.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
